LOS ANGELES, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Broadcast Film Critics Association's (BFCA) "Critics' Choice Awards" show will make VH1 its new television network home with an exclusive three-year deal. The awards are bestowed annually by the BFCA to honor the finest in cinematic achievement. VH1 will air the 13th annual "Critics' Choice Awards" gala live from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Monday, January 7, 2008.
Since its inception in 1995, the "Critics' Choice Awards" has become a star-studded bellwether event of the movie awards season. The BFCA consistently picks nominees and winners that go on to garner more Academy Award nominations and wins than any other movie awards shows.
In 2007 alone, the "Critics' Choice Awards" foretold 30 of the 35 nominees and six of the seven Oscar(R) winners in the top seven categories including best picture, acting, directing, and writing. In addition, since 1999 the BFCA has correctly chosen 43 of 45 Academy Award nominated movies in the Best Picture category and this year was the only major film critics group to name "The Departed" (the 2007 Oscar(R) winner) as Best Picture.
The "Critics' Choice Awards" is the first major award show of the year and the only one to air before the Oscar(R) nomination ballots are mailed in. With its history of picking nominees and winners, it provides television viewers with their first opportunity to see all the top awards season contenders in one place.
The "Critics' Choice Awards" is always a hot ticket event for entertainment A-listers. Attending the show in 2007 was a who's who of Hollywood including: Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Forest Whitaker, Helen Mirren, Alan Arkin, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, Ryan Gosling, Kate Winslet, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Penelope Cruz, Spike Lee, Jessica Biel, Sacha Baron Cohen and Dakota Fanning.
The Broadcast Film Critics Association is the largest film critics' organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 200 television, radio and online critics. Greater Media Newspapers Expands Web Coverage With Eminent Domain Project
FREEHOLD, N.J., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Greater Media Newspapers (GMN) has unveiled a brand new feature on its website, which provides an in-depth look at the eminent domain controversy in Long Branch, NJ, and similar controversies in other areas of the state.
The special web report, entitled "Eminent Domain: Spotlight on Long Branch," focuses on the city of Long Branch's use of eminent domain that included taking oceanfront property from private homeowners and letting private developers profit from this redevelopment.

WASHINGTON, July 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton will address members of the National Association of Black Journalists at the 32nd NABJ Convention & Career Fair, Aug. 8-12 at Bally's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, the association and her campaign jointly announced today.
With more than 3,000 media professionals expected to attend, the convention will be the largest gathering of journalists of color in the United States this year. The forum, "A Conversation with America's Candidates" will take place during the annual newsmaker plenary on Thursday, Aug. 9.
NABJ has invited the other major Democratic and Republican presidential candidates to participate in this series of conversations with black journalists, including Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards, former Gov. Mitt Romney, Sen. John McCain and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. CNN White House correspondent Suzanne Malveaux will moderate the forum.

According to the CNBC analysis, Texas ranked second, followed by Utah, Georgia, and North Carolina.

U.K. LEADING ECONOMIC INDICATORS AND RELATED COMPOSITE INDEXES FOR MAY 2007
NEW YORK, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- July 13, 2007 release of the UK LEADING ECONOMIC INDICATORS AND RELATED COMPOSITE INDEXES, incorporates benchmark revisions to the composite indexes bringing them up-to-date with revisions in the source data and updating the standardization factors used in their calculation. This is a maintenance procedure typically done once a year, which usually does not change the cyclical properties of the indexes and has, as expected, relatively small effects.
This release also implements major revisions to the composite index of leading economic indicators (LEI): 1) a new component, interest rate spread, will be used in the composition of the LEI and will replace the discontinued fixed income price index series, 2) the LEI methodology will incorporate a trend adjustment, and 3) another discontinued component, new orders for engineering industries, will be omitted from the LEI. The new measure of the yield spread improves the performance of the LEI by better reflecting the way the yield spread anticipates cyclical economic turning points. The trend adjustment facilitates interpretation and use of the LEI.

The Conference Board announced today that the leading index for the U.K. increased 0.1 percent and the coincident index increased 0.2 percent in May.
-- The leading index increased slightly in May, following strong gains in
previous months. The six-month growth rate of the leading index picked
up to a 2.1 percent rate (a 4.2 percent annual rate), from the
1.0 - 1.5 percent rate (about a 2.5 percent annual rate) at the end of
2006. In addition, only the yield spread component has been making
consistently small negative contributions to the leading index
recently, and the strengths among the leading indicators have become
more widespread than the weaknesses in recent months.
-- The coincident index also increased slightly in May, the third
consecutive gain. This index of current economic activity has been on
a flat to moderately rising trend since mid-2006, but its growth has
picked up since January, and the strengths among the coincident
indicators have become somewhat more widespread in the last three
months.
-- After reaching almost a 4.5 percent annual rate in mid-2006, the
six-month growth rate of the leading index gradually slowed through
January, but it has since rebounded and the index is again growing at
about the same rate as in mid-2006. At the same time, real GDP growth
has been fluctuating in the range of 2.5-3.5 percent annual rate in the
last six quarters, including 2.6 percent in the first quarter of 2007.
The recent behavior in the leading and coincident indexes suggests that
the economy should continue growing and may even pick up somewhat in
the near term.

LEADING INDICATORS. Five of the seven components that make up the leading index increased in May. The positive contributors - from the largest positive contributor to the smallest -- were consumer confidence, productivity for the whole economy*, stock prices, order book volume, and operating surplus of corporations*. The negative contributors - from the larger contributor to the smaller -- were volume of expected output and yield spread.
With the 0.1 percent increase in May, the leading index now stands at 129.1 (1990=100). Based on revised data, this index increased 0.5 percent in April and increased 0.4 percent in March. During the six-month span through May, the leading index increased 2.1 percent, with all seven components advancing (diffusion index, six-month span equals 100.0 percent).
COINCIDENT INDICATORS. All of the four components that make up the coincident index increased in May. The positive contributors -- from the largest positive contributor to the smallest -- were employment *, industrial production, retail sales, and real household disposable income*.
With the increase of 0.2 percent in May, the coincident index now stands at 118.2 (1990=100). Based on revised data, this index increased 0.1 percent in both April and March. During the six-month period through May, the coincident index increased 0.2 percent, with three of the four components advancing (diffusion index, six-month span equals 75.0 percent).

Key discoveries in chemical and bio-based products recognized for advancing scientific discovery
COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Battelle and the national laboratories it manages or co-manages for the U.S. Department of Energy won 12 R&D 100 Awards in this year's edition of the "Oscars of Innovation."
Bio-polyols and ferrates certainly wouldn't make it into any Oscar-worthy movie title, but in the world of science and technology, notable advances in these areas have the potential for great societal impact.
R&D Magazine presents the awards annually to honor the year's most significant scientific and technological innovations. Battelle won two awards, while the national laboratories Battelle manages or co-manages for DOE won 10 awards for technologies dealing with everything from advanced materials to solar energy. Oak Ridge National Laboratory won six awards, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory won three, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory won one.
The 12 new awards increase the total number of R&D 100 Awards for Battelle and the national labs it manages or co-manages to 170. The magazine has been presenting the awards since 1969.

The winning Battelle technologies are:
Reactive Bio-Polyols (joint submission with the Ohio Soybean Council,
Columbus, and the United Soybean Board, St. Louis.)
* Polyols are valuable chemical intermediates used primarily for the
production of flexible and rigid foams, various types of coatings, and
composites. The U.S. market for polyols is over three billion pounds
per year and the worldwide market is about 2.5 times this amount.
Currently, almost all polyols are derived from petroleum-based
feedstocks, which are becoming more costly due to the dramatic price
increase of these feedstocks. The Battelle-developed novel bio-based
polyols are derived from soybean oil and other vegetable oils -- which
are renewable resources -- and low-cost glycerin. Glycerin, a co-
product from the biodiesel refinery operations, is projected to be in
oversupply and very inexpensive as a result of rapid growth in this
industry. The projected costs of Battelle polyols are expected to be
significantly less than polyols derived from petroleum sources.
Furthermore, coatings prepared from Battelle polyols significantly
out-perform coatings prepared from competing bio-based polyols and
have comparable characteristics as coatings prepared from petroleum-
based polyols.
Battelle Ferrate (VI) Products
* The Battelle Ferrate (VI) Process is the first technology that
produces potassium ferrate and other ferrate salts continuously at
high purity levels using inexpensive and readily available feed
materials. While ferrate has been known since the early 1700s, it has
been relegated to exist as a laboratory novelty because there has been
no reliable, cost-effective production process to supply demand. The
Battelle Ferrate Process is based on fundamental electrochemical,
general chemistry, and engineering economic principles and paves the
way to move ferrate salts from the research bench to widespread
commercial, consumer and government use. Potential applications range
from specialty chemical uses such as decontamination and personal care
to antifouling and general water disinfection.

The magazine reported that only 173 hospitals out of 5,462 evaluated met the specialty criteria recognition.

Cats Protection Launches KittenAid Appeal to Help Hope, Hugo and Friends
HAYWARDS HEATH, England, July 13/PRNewswire/ -- Hope and Hugo are just two of the many unwanted and abandoned
kittens that Cats Protection is asking the general public to help through its
KittenAid Appeal this summer.
The UK's leading feline welfare charity is currently inundated
with thousands of kittens, as a result of unneutered cats breeding in the
warmer weather. Donations are desperately needed to help the charity look
after them as well as find them loving new homes.
Some, like Hope and Hugo, came to the charity in an extremely
poor state, according to Cats Protection's National Cat Adoption Centre in
Haywards Heath, Sussex.
Natalie Andrews, Deputy Manager of the Centre said: "Hope and
Hugo were underweight, flea-ridden and suffering with stomach problems when
they came into the charity's care back in April. Hugo in particular was at
death's door, but thanks to the hard work of our staff and volunteers, both
kittens have made a full recovery and are ready to find new homes."
Janet Wickens, Head of Fundraising and Communications added:
"Sadly there are many more cats like Hope and Hugo that need the charity's
help - our 29 Centres alone are expecting 6,000 kittens, with our 261
Branches taking in many more. We are doing our best to cope but we also have
our hands full looking after the thousands of cats that are in our care at
the moment. I would therefore appeal to people to give generously to help us
give these kittens a second chance in life."
Individuals can also help by homing a cat in the charity's
care and/or neutering their pet cat.
Maggie Roberts, the charity's Head of Veterinary Services,
explained: "One unneutered cat can produce up to 18 kittens in a year, so
neutering really does help to reduce the numbers of kittens that are brought
to the charity or dumped and left to fend for themselves. Neutering also
makes cats less likely to fight and pass on diseases transmitted through
biting and saliva, so it will greatly benefit your cat's health."

recorded over 3,000 site visits. Launched on 1 July 2007, the site offers
adult smokers a 'one-stop shop' to search for bars, clubs and restaurants in
their area which provide outdoor facilities, allowing them to smoke, drink,
eat and socialise while remaining within the new law.
